Smokefree action
The Finnish strategy to reduce tobacco consumption is based on comprehensive measures, including information campaigns, public health programs, and protective legislation. The features of this comprehensive policy are legislation, rising awareness about health issues, price policy, smoking cessation, monitoring and research. Especially continuing monitoring and research play an important role.
Public health programme outlines the targets for Finland´s national health policy til 2015. The main focus of the strategy is on health promotion. One of the targets for adolescents is that smoking by young people will decrease to less than 15% of those aged 16-18 year. In 2009 smoking among 14-16-year-olds was 19 %.
