Finland smoke-free by 2040
Helsinki 29 September 2009 - The government of Finland is urged to undertake policies that make Finland smoke-free by 2040. This means that tobacco use is reduced by 10 % annually. Nowadays, around one quarter of adults uses tobacco products.

Smoke-free Helsinki
The capital of Finland was declared a smoke-free city in January 2007. Smoking is banned in all work places, but restrictions on smoking breaks haven't yet been included in the existing programme. However, no designated smoking areas are arranged indoors. Employees are strongly encouraged to quit.

Smoking decreases, overweight increases
In 2008, 24 % of men and 18 % of women smoked daily. Smoking among men has decreased since the late 1970s, smoking among women has remained at the same level since the mid-1980s. However, female smoking has decreased slightly in recent years.
